Nasarawa buys N350m equipment for technical education

Nasarawa State Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has procured modern skill acquisition materials worth N350 million from Singapore to boost technical education.

Al-Makura, who said this while briefing journalists immediately after inspecting facilities and structures at the Government Technical College, Assakio, in Lafia Local Government Area of the state, said the government had also received 28 containers, packed with modern skill acquisition equipments that would be used to train the students of technical and vocational institutions in the state.

He affirmed that as part of measures to ensure the full utilisation of the equipment, the state government had concluded plans to bring experts from Singapore who would train the teachers on various skills acquisition.

 “The essence of this is that we are giving holistic approach to technical education, so that every student that goes through the system will have both the practical and theoretical knowledge to live on their own, our target is to make the state a centre of artisans for Nigerians.

“Very soon we are going to receive the Singaporean experts that will come and stay here in Assakio to put the buildings up, install the equipment and train the trainers,” he said.

He, reiterated his administration’s commitment to provide technical schools in the state with all the essential equipments that would enable them compete favourably globally and to also produce made-in-Nigeria goods that would stop Nigerians from patronising foreign products.

According to the governor, most of the teachers from the technical section will be given a refresher course for about three months to upgrade them on the new technology.

The state government also earmarked N500 million for the construction and rehabilitation of rural roads and bridges across the state.

Al-Makura dropped the hint at Fadama Bauna, after inspecting the state of rural roads in the Lafia East Development Area of the state.
